Christian Louboutin for Nails

The iconic red soles are coveted by most women. That flash of red is a symbol of status and class. But most don't realize that the inspiration for the famous Christian Louboutin red sole actually came from a bottle of nail polish.

As Christian was working on the Pensée shoe in 1993 (inspired by Andy Warhol's "Flowers"), he felt something was missing. His assistant was nearby painting her nails and he snatched the bottle, coating the sole in the vibrant red. And the rest is history.

Now as he launches his first beauty collection, what better way to unveil than with Rouge Louboutin. He puts it best himself: "I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago."

The bottle itself is a piece of art, drawing inspiration from the Ballerina Ultima heel (the tallest heel Louboutin ever created with a height of 8 inches). And the polish is a highly pigmented, super glossy formula that is touted to deliver flawless and chip-resistant coverage. I haven't had a chance to try it myself, but would be interested to hear feedback if anyone else has this polish. Is it worth the $50 price tag, or is it more of just a collector's piece for the fashion obsessed?
