Sandrino Slices Up Pizza Perfection in Sausalito
This pizza place is the size of a postage stamp and always packed; for good reason! The pizza is fabulous, the ambiance is warm and cozy and the owners are delightful, friendly and community oriented. Neighbors were so impressed with the new proprietors that when they opened and hadn’t finished hiring staff, they all pitched in to help! When does that ever happen?! The owners, Alesandro Spaziani Montagna and his wife Monika Torggler hail from Verona, Italy and for 10 years operated a restaurant in Trento at the foot of the Dolomites in northern Italy. The couple treat their restaurant patrons like guests in their own home (which happens to be only 5 blocks away!) Alesandro’s dream since he was a young child was to come to America and now that he’s here, we don’t want to let him leave! Everything at Sandrino is handmade, fresh and delicious. My favorite pizza is the Valtellina with mozzarella, artichoke, bresaola, shaved parmesan, balsamic vinegar & extra virgin olive oil; but don’t limit yourself to pizza. We had a burrata bruschetta the other night that was culinary nirvana. Truly divine. Be advised that the restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday, but otherwise open daily for lunch and dinner. They don’t take reservations, but it is well worth the wait; especially if you are sipping one of their wonderful wines. Caledonia Street has scored a great new addition. 45 Caledonia Street, sandrino-sausalito.com 415.729.9166. Burrata Bruschetta at Sandrino pictured above.
