Planning for your Big Game party? Here are a few tips to ensure the experience really is super.

Super Bowl parties typically last several hours, so make sure that you have enough options to keep your guests happy. Instead of breaking the bank by going the take-out route, prepare foods that can be made in large portions and then cut and/or served individually, such as quesadillas, drumsticks, chicken skewers, enchiladas, or calzones.

Want more time to enjoy the game? Consider creating a “bar” for food so that you can lay out items and have guests serve themselves. Baked potatoes, fajitas, sloppy joes, chili and nachos are all easily assembled, and allow guests to choose the add-ons themselves.

And remember that gameday food doesn’t have to mean throwing your New Year’s resolutions out the window.  Here are a couple of dips that are not only easy to make, but are better-for-you too!

Guacamole

1.            2 avocados, peeled, pitted and diced

2.            1 large tomato, diced

3.            1 onion, diced

4.            1 jalapeno pepper, chopped

5.            ½ tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro

6.            2 tablespoons, fresh lime juice

7.            salt to taste

In a medium bowl, mash the avocadoes and with a fork. Mix in the tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro and lime juice. Salt to taste. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving. Keep it healthier by serving with pita chips or whole-grain crackers.

Hummus

1.            2 cups canned garbanzo beans, drained

2.            1/3 cup tahini

3.            ¼ cup lemon juice

4.            1 teaspoon salt

5.            2 cloves garlic, halved

6.            1 tablesppon olive oil

7.            1 pinch paprika

Place the garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, salt and garlic in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Transfer mixture to a serving bowl. Drizzle olive oil over the mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Keep it healthier by serving with snap peas, broccoli, Belgian endives, cherry tomatoes or carrots
