Art of Rock Legends Opening Reception

No plans set for Friday night? Come to the opening event of San Rafael Rocks, the film and music celebration which benefits Bay Area arts program for homeless children, DrawBridge. When you take a look at the list of participants (that reads like a who’s who of rock and roll royalty) you’ll see that this event is not to be missed. The benefit exhibition features artwork by iconic 60’s musicians, artists and photographers including 21 original artworks by Jerry Garcia, presented in partnership with The Jerry Garcia Foundation. Original artwork has also been donated by Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Marty Balin, Commander Cody, Peter Max, Dave Getz and more. On top of all of that, some of the best rock ‘n’ roll photographers of the era have also donated their work, including Baron Wolman, the first Chief of Photography for Rolling Stone magazine, Robert Altman, Graham Nash, Ed Perlstein and Richard Pechner. The exhibition will also include outstanding rock posters from artists Stanley Mouse, Pat Ryan, Arlene Owseichik and Shane Grogg.

Kasia Pawlowska loves words. A native of Poland, Kasia moved to the States when she was seven. The San Francisco State University creative writing graduate went on to write for publications like the San Francisco Bay Guardian and KQED Arts among others prior to joining the Marin Magazine staff. Topics Kasia has covered include travel, trends, mushroom hunting, an award-winning series on social media addiction and loads of other random things. When she’s not busy blogging or researching and writing articles, she’s either at home writing postcards and reading or going to shows. Recently, Kasia has been trying to branch out and diversify, ie: use different emojis. Her quest for the perfect chip is never-ending.
