Festivals. Love them or hate them, they’re everywhere. Emptying your local store racks of sunglasses and tank tops and littering your streets with cheap beer cans and glitter. But this weekend there’s something different in store for you because it’s final weekend of the first ever music festival in the U.S. entirely devoted to classical and romantic chamber music on period instruments. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann to Mendelssohn will all be performed on original or period instruments in use at the time the music was originally composed. Complimentary wine will be offered and those who are 30 and under can enjoy these impeccable aural arrangements for just $20. Top national and international artists who are renowned experts in historic performance like Elizabeth Blumenstock, Monica Huggett, Eric Hoeprich, and others will perform for audiences but their roles go beyond that. The musicians will also coach and mentor the young emerging artists who are a part of the festival’s Apprenticeship Program, a show you can see for free on Friday night.
