Sausalito Film Series at Cavallo Point features "The Last Ocean"

The Last Ocean – a gripping documentary about threats to the last pristine marine habitat in the world – will launch the 2015 Sausalito Film Festival Series Friday, March 13th at Cavallo Point. The event is a benefit in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC).

The winner of numerous international awards, the film focuses on the Ross Sea in Antarctica – a living laboratory teeming with whales, seals, penguins and toothfish – that is being seriously impacted by the fishing industry. Director and cinematographer Peter Young has brilliantly captured this vast, frozen landscape on the very edge of existence, largely untouched by humans.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a reception hosted by Cavallo Point; the film will screen at 6:45 p.m. followed by a provocative panel discussion including Dr. David Ainley,  Animal Behavioral Ecologist and Biologist, who is featured in the film and has studied the Ross Sea ecosystem for 30 years, as well as Dr. Frances Gulland, Senior Scientist, TMMC, who is also a U.S. Marine Mammal Commissioner. The interactive panel will be moderated by Dr. Claire Simeone, Conservation Medicine Veterinarian, TMMC.
