California Museum Month

In my opinion, there is no better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon than exploring art or history exhibits. I love to look at an old painting or clay pot, and think about how much it has seen over its hundreds of years in the world. When I think of museums, my mind goes to San Francisco. However, Marin has a rich history of its own dating back to the Native Americans that inhabited the land for thousands of years before Europeans migrated west. Thus, you do not have to cross the Golden Gate to get access to see some of the areas most culturally diverse displays because right here in Marin, there are a plethora to choose from. In honor of California’s Museum month, six Novato museums are offering a free membership year. Museums include, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (which has classes, lectures events and 15 new exhibits per year), Olompali State Historic Park (which contains 700 acres housing, 19th century ranch buildings, old adobe ruins and a recreated Miwok Indian village), the Museum of the American Indian (with over 2,000 artifacts of tribes all over the nation), Novato History Museum (which tells the story of Novato including agricultural tools, children's toys, and photos), and the Space Station Museum (which gives viewers a chance to see an extensive collection of NASA space equipment and Hamilton Field History Museum that is located on a former army airfield with artifacts and a library and research center).
