Ship Operations in the Bay

I don’t know about you, but for as long as I could remember the huge cargo ships entering the the bay have fascinated me. In fact, one of my most memorable recent regrets is missing the CMA CGA Benjamin Franklin when it was here. I’m not sure what provokes my sense of wonder, maybe it is just the sheer size of these behemoths, but they beg the question: where are they going? What are they carrying? If you, too, are curious, join Captain Craig Thomas of Agile Marine this weekend as he provides a better understanding of commercial shipping operations. The program includes the types of ships, ship construction and layout, commercial considerations, types and locations of terminals in the Bay Area, manning requirements including careers and International, U.S. and California Regulations. A typical voyage for a tanker and container ship will be tracked from outside the bay, into a terminal, carrying out cargo operations and departing to sea towards the next port.

If You Go:
When: Saturday, November 26 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Bay Model Visitor Center, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA
Cost: Free
