Paul D. Gibson

Paul Gibson has produced art in San Francisco for the past 27 years. He is a graduate of Art Center College of Design, attended California Polytechnic State University for Architecture and received a full time painting scholarship from the National Academy of Design, New York.

Paul has shown work in many notable galleries and at art fairs such as Allan Stone Gallery, Arthaus Gallery, George Krevsky Gallery, Melissa Morgan Fine Arts, and at the Andrea Schwartz Gallery. SF Fine Arts Fair, ARTMk, Art Hamptons NY, Red Dot, Art Basel Miami, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, LA Contemporary Art Show, San Diego Fine Arts Show, Trition Museum, Art Silicon Valley, Museum Los Gatos,

His work can be found in many private and public collections which include the National Building Museum Washington DC, Achenbach Collection SF Museum, 9’ Public Bronze Sculpture 77 Van Ness SF, CA and the Seven Bridges Foundation, CT.

Paul’s current work focuses on ordinary objects, light, shadow, settings and perspectives that depart in varying degrees from how they typically exist or are experienced.  The compositions shift everyday expectations in unconventional ways, the portrayals purposefully intended to stimulate, engage and even challenge viewers to resolve the settings and get comfortable with new rules of engaging their surroundings.  At times, arrangements are distorted, balanced in impossible ways, or float in space against abstracted backgrounds.  No matter how far truth may be stretched, reality and fantasy still combine in reasonably believable ways.  Every scenario remains accessible enough for anyone to step into the action, become part of the plan, contemplate the larger narrative, and hopefully be intrigued by visual adventures they may have never encountered before.

Paul and his wife Sharon are avid collectors of works on paper, paintings with more the 150 pictures in their collection He is currently showing his work at the Desta Gallery San Anselmo, CA
