Description

Khusugtun is an internationally recognized band that performs traditional music from Mongolia. Inspired by their nomadic ancestry and historic civilization, Khusugtun travels the world promoting the folk arts of Mongolian culture. They are especially renowned for their a capella arrangements using “khöömei” or “throat-singing,” which is an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity from Mongolia.

Khusugtun formed in 2008 and quickly became one of the most respected music groups in Mongolia. They have won numerous awards both nationally and internationally and have performed in some of the world's most esteemed venues and festivals. Khusugtun was runner-up of the Asia's Got Talent 2015 show. They were also invited to be in the Netflix original series Marco Polo for two seasons.

These six musicians produce works that are tightly arranged and expertly played, whether sweetly melodic and yearning or more vigorous and underpinned by cantering rhythms. Their pieces feature elements of Western classical music and musical instruments and techniques that form part of Mongolia's intangible cultural heritage, including the horsehead fiddle, zither, flute, lute, open-ended flute, various jaw harps, and throat-singing.
