Patricia Leeds: Parallel Thoughts
October 2nd thru October 31st
Tiburon, CA - The Atrium and Chambers Galleries at the Tiburon Town Hall will open a unique solo exhibition by Marin artist Patricia Leeds on October 2nd, on view through October 31st. Parallel Thoughts will feature 18 works that explore the creative process in dual mediums of expression: encaustic on paper and digital painting.
Patricia Leeds is a multi-disciplinary artist. She has worked in the commercial photography world for over 30 years. She paints with pigmented bee’s wax and encaustic medium using a heated palette and transferring the work onto Japanese papers, creating marks, abstract figures, and layers of paint. These monotypes, or one of a kind paintings, usually begin with a pre-conceived idea and then they take on a life of their own.
She also creates digital paintings on her Ipad, usually photographing her subjects with an iPhone and then transferring the images to her iPad where she creates composites using multiple images, adding effects and hand drawn layers via a number of apps.
“My work is about texture, contrast, narrative and the element of surprise. While working with encaustic medium, I am never quite sure what the end result will be even though my ideas for a series or a single piece have been pre-visualized. The work seems to take on a life of its own.”
“My process usually begins with an idea, although not always obvious, which allows the viewer to create their own interpretation. I like to think my work reflects my internal life and the way I view the world. I live in both the analog and the digital world.”
Location: Atrium and Chambers Galleries, Tiburon Town Hall, 1505 Tiburon Boulevard, Tiburon, CA Open: Monday – Thursday 8:30AM – 5:00PM
