Artists Exposed

Maybe it’s the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets (depending on which side of Mount Tam you live, but either way the light is always striking), the beautiful scenery, the proximity to the ocean, the small-town life or all of the above, Marin seems to have a special attraction for artists of all media. Below are some of the organizations promoting them.

83  ICB (Industrial Center Building) Built in 1942 as a place to build ships to support the war effort, this historical landmark is now home to more than 100 artists who create paintings, sculpture and photography — and open their studios to the public twice a year in May and September. icbbuilding.com

84  Marin Arts Through exhibits, events, art forums and a semi-annual local favorite tour throughout Marin County (Marin Arts Open — where artists share their creative environments and art with the public), Marin Arts promotes the work of local artists. marinarts.org

85  Artworks Downtown This downtown San Rafael destination is a work/living space committed to providing an incubator for emerging artists and art-related businesses. Low-income housing (for artists) and affordable studio space support the local art community. artworksdowntown.org
