32 A point of pride in golf, a game better known for lowering self-esteem than enhancing it, is shooting your age, recording, say, a 72 for 18 holes or, more typically, a 55 on the front nine. If you play 18 at the nine-hole Mill Valley Golf Course and shoot the club’s age, you have a decent duffer’s score (92) and one well earned. The course is an up, down and over affair that traverses creeks, threads redwood groves and grants no mercy to anyone who dog hooks, chili dips or otherwise mangles a golf ball — meaning nearly all of us. It’s a visual treat, a technical challenge and also a bargain: only $27 for 18 holes weekdays ($17 for nine, and lesser still for locals). mvgolf.com
