53 When 142 Throckmorton opened as the Hub Theatre in 1915, locals could see silent movies or live vaudeville shows for just a quarter. Although the downtown Mill Valley theater has changed owners and functions many times since, it’s always served as a place for members of the community to get together. But now it seems the birthplace of the Mill Valley Film Festival has really found its stride with a full range of offerings including a youth theater program, playwrights’ lab, community forms, live music from the likes of Jonathan Richman and the House Jacks, and, of course, comedy every Tuesday night from Mill Valley’s own funnyman Mark Pitta. Events at 142 are always a hot ticket. 142throckmortontheatre.com
