Tahoe Bites

My husband and I kicked off July fourth weekend at the Beerfest and Bluegrass Festival (pictured). More than two-dozen breweries were represented with IPAs, reds and wheats taking center stage. Northstar California, often heralded as the ideal family ski getaway destination, caters to mountain bikers, foodies, and families during the summer time. On Friday nights you’ll find dirt smudged bikers convening over Bikes + Brews, and frequent Saturday evening Brewmaster Dinners attract residents and visitors alike with five-courses and paired beers. Families – especially those travelling with three active generations – enjoy the Lift + Lunch Package that includes all-day gondola access to a network of hiking trails plus a lunch voucher for the Downhill Grille. The summer festivities for culinary enthusiasts culminate with one of the most fun annual events – the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival which takes place from Sept. 11 to 13 and includes dozens of events including free sampling and ticketed dinners, tastings and hikes.

North Shore

Tahoe City’s best restaurants, as compiled by writer and friend Christina Nellemann, offer delectable bites ranging from affordable lake view such as barbeque at Moe’s to creative Californian cuisine at Wolfdale’s – and everything in between. Eat in or visit the Thursday morning farmers' market for goodies to enjoy at home or on Commons Beach.

East Shore

If you’ll be spending the day at Sand Harbor or want to enjoy the historic Thunderbird Lodge and contribute to its’ upkeep, treat yourself and honey to one of the Thunderbird’s Winemaker's Dinners. Offered on the second Sunday of each month, guest chefs work closely with wineries to plan a memorable paired menu.

South Shore

While the casinos and independently owned restaurants on the South Shore serve specialties and host themed dinners, the big event comes over Labor Day weekend with Sample the Sierra, a farm-to-fork festival celebrating food, wine, and art on Sept. 6.

West Shore

The West Shore Café and Homewood Mountain’s Farm to Peak Dinners are good destinations for visiting foodies.
