5 Things to Keep You Sane During Coronavirus Shelter-in-Place This Week

Local Sauces for Your Memorial Day Barbecue

It isn’t a Memorial Day without barbecue and it isn’t a barbecue without sauce. Check out three local sauce options including Michelin Bib Gourmand winner Pig in a Pickle, Sol Food, and something to make your Bloody Mary extra special from Smitty’s.

Tree Pose (Yoga)

Connect with nature with Vrksasana (vrik-SHAHS-anna), or Tree Pose. The roots of a tree go deep into the earth, yet trees also reach their highest potential as they reach toward the sun. As you practice this pose, think less about all of the proper alignment points and more about the spiritual and emotional component of it.

A Guide to Backyard Farming

Do you want to be more self-sufficient and channel your inner farmer? Whether you have lots of land, a petite balcony or extra room in the kitchen, there are a variety of ways to produce your own food. Here are tips from Jim Normandi, owner of Fairfax Backyard Farmer, for creating a more fruitful and healthful homestead.

Become a Watcher

There are plenty of opportunities to stand around and do something in Marin — from counting to photographing to measuring. The following organizations are looking for volunteer observers to document all kinds of data.

Cooking with Citrus

“The concept of ‘cooking’ raw shrimp and fish simply in citrus may sound like something better left to professionals — but give it a try,” says Beso Bistro founder Michelle Berlin. The acid in the lemon or lime will turn the seafood from translucent and gray to opaque, white and pink. “[The dish] is a delightful gift from our neighbors to the south and the surrounding islands,” says Berlin. “Recipes vary from region to region, depending on what is available, and this recipe is fairly basic, yet customized to what we have here in Marin: locally caught wild Pacific snapper and organic Meyer lemons.”
