Asian Art Museum Free Admission

The Asian Art Museum is one of the largest museums in the Western world devoted exclusively to Asian Art, with a collection of over 18,000 artworks spanning 6,000 years of history — and that kind of sheer volume makes for lots of exploring. And while there be sure to check out When Pictures Speak: The Written Word in Japanese Art, which will only remain on display through August 19. The exhibition examines words and pictures that are often combined in Japanese art, to celebrate poems and stories, express religious teachings, and comment on current events. Though not unique to Japan, the marriage of text and image has flourished there, finding relevance within each new generation of artists, writers, and patrons. Additional entrance fees apply to special exhibitions.
