“Beyond Nature,” and “Deconstructed /Reconstructed” @ Desta Gallery

Desta Gallery is pleased to announce two concurrent solo exhibitions: “Beyond Nature,” paintings by Chris Hayman and “Deconstructed / Reconstructed,” Collage by Marlene Walters, on view from February 29 to April 11, 2020, and a reception for the artists on Saturday, March 7, 5:00 – 7:00 PM

Chris Hayman received her BA in Art History at the University of Maryland and a second degree in Art at the University of Reno, Nevada where she started her investigation in painting. Hayman has exhibited actively with several galleries nationwide. Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.

In her paintings, Hayman concerns herself with space. She is interested in how forms are energized by the space around them, especially when incorporated into paintings with vivid contrasting colors and thick painterly textures.

Marlene Walters earned a B.A. in Art from Mills College and became an award-winning corporate graphic designer. She returned to oil painting and studied with many notable painters including Van Waldron, in the lineage of Russian master painter Sergei Bongart. She exhibits throughout the Bay Area and beyond and has grown a loyal following of collectors, nationally and internationally.

Walters’ most recent work extends her exploration into complex assemblages of archival prints of her own paintings.

CK CONTEMPORARY OPENING NEW LOCATION IN 2020
CK Contemporary begins a new chapter in the Spring of 2020 with a move to an expansive new location at 246 Powell Street. The elegant new gallery is only a half-block away from its original location, yet boasts more than twice as much exhibition space. The new gallery is in the heart of San Francisco, at the corner of Powell and Geary, and housed within the historic Union Square Building.
After seven years of steady growth, CK Contemporary is prepared to enhance the representation of its artists while broadening its exhibition program and solidifying its long-term commitment to downtown San Francisco. Lauren Ellis, CK Contemporary Owner and Director, is looking forward to presenting the full breadth of CKC’s collection, explaining that “while our current location has served us well, it has also held us back in many ways. We will finally have an opportunity to simultaneously display single artist exhibitions as well as group shows, allowing us to take more chances and spotlight artists who deserve to be shown.”
CK Contemporary will continue its robust representation of contemporary realism and figurative art, as well as its commitment to historic estates, such as the estate of Walter Quirt. The new gallery will have two levels, with soaring ceilings above the street level entrance, opening up opportunities for large paintings and sculpture, while the grand downstairs gallery is an ideal environment for more private contemplation.
Ideally located close to parking, BART, and San Francisco’s best retail and dining, the new gallery will be a sophisticated and convenient venue, which will be accessible to locals and tourists alike. “We look forward to continuing CK Contemporary’s mission to enrich the cultural landscape of San Francisco by creating a welcoming, educational and accessible environment for everyone to experience contemporary art,” Ellis says.
The Grand Opening Celebration will be held April 25 from 7:30-10:30. The inaugural exhibition will be a show thanking all the artists and collectors that have made the gallery’s growth possible. We will be bringing artists in from around the world and the event is open to the public. For more information, please call CK Contemporary at (415) 397-0114 or email info@ckcontemporary.com. The new CK Contemporary is located at 246 Powell Street, San Francisco, California, 94102.
