Intriguing Art. Remarkable Place.
The City of San Rafael presents 3 distinctively unique artists — Maeve Croghan, Nelson Hee and Bernell Loeb — for the Marin Open Studios 2019 at the Falkirk Cultural Center at 1408 Mission Avenue.
The Falkirk Cultural Center is an elegant three-story mansion, a blend of Queen Anne & Eastlake styles, was built in 1888. The eleven-acre country estate includes demonstration gardens, an active greenhouse, and natural wooded hillside. The estate is listed on the National Historic Register and has served as a Cultural Center and popular event venue since 1974.
Maeve Croghan’s nature paintings are initiated outside and finished in the studio from memory, personal exploration and interpretation, creating an element of magic realism in her work.
Nelson Hee’s representational maritime art is an extraordinary collection of watercolors rendered in meditative detail called The Mooring Series.
Bernell Loeb’s work is informed by dreams and her own drive toward feminine awakening. The women she paints represent a striving for wholeness and an understanding of their connection to the larger world.
