Great Art Off the Beaten Path

Imagine eleven amazing artists capturing the color and nuance, the light and landscape of Marin County and other scenic Northern California venues.

Venture afield this weekend to West Marin and to the Bolinas Gallery at 52 Wharf Road in Bolinas. On Sunday, March 20, the gallery will host a reception from 2–5 p.m. featuring an exhibit of 60 oil paintings by 11 artists. The exhibit –– “Colorists of Northern California” –– will run until April 3. The gallery will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday through Sunday.

Featured artists, many of whom will be in attendance this weekend, are Jan Baldwin, Kay Carlson, Laura Culver, Dorallen Davis, Bernd Enders, Dianne Hansen, Thia Haselton, Jane Heaphy, Carol Smith Myer, Larry Pahl and Kit Shepard.

It is the penultimate spring outing in West Marin, now a verdant landscape on canvas in its own right raging green and full of bloom after the monsoon rains of past weeks.  You may even want to pull out an easel and have your own plein air experience inspired by the vibrant colors of the season and the coastline.

Hit my favorite watering holes coming or going – the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach for Guinness and darts; the Sand Dollar Restaurant in Stinson Beach…or there is always Smiley’s Schooner Saloon in Bolinas.

It’s the most beautiful time of year in West Marin.
