The 42nd Mill Valley Film Festival

It’s our sixth year of partnering with the California Film Institute and the Mill Valley Film Festival, and we are pleased to present this guide to the event and whet your appetite for thrilling cinema. In these pages, founder/executive director Mark Fishkin talks about the festival programmers’ knack for picking Oscar-winning films, and director of programming Zoë Elton discusses the Mind the Gap program, which is amplifying the voices of female filmmakers. Our writers Bernard Boo, Zack Ruskin, Peter Crooks and Kirsten Jones Neff bring stories on cinematic remakes, the year 1969 in film, what (and who) it takes to put the festival together, and the 20th anniversary of the renovated Rafael theater. There’s also an intriguing piece on longtime Hollywood actor Barbara Rush, a challenging quiz and, of course, a complete schedule listing every film being screened at the event. We hope you enjoy this guide to the festival’s 42nd year.
