Sausalito Film Series Bay Area Premier of "The Happy Film"
On Sunday, April 23, the Sausalito Film Series at Cavallo Point will present The Happy Film – a feature-length documentary in which famed graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister searches for bliss. Sagmeister is on a relentless and rather wild journey to redesign his personality to become a happier and better person. Ron Nabors, co-director and producer of the film with Sagmeister, will be flying in from New York for a discussion following the provocative screening.
Turning himself into a design project, Sagmeister experiments with meditation, therapy and drugs taking us on a riveting autobiographical journey that is painfully personal, fast paced, and contemplative. The film is an entertaining confessional as much as it is an experimental art piece. As Wired Magazine says: “The Happy Film may not leave you significantly happier… but it will trigger rushes of insight, empathy and voyeuristic pleasure.”
The acclaimed Austrian designer whose business is based in New York, has cultivated a client base ranging from the Rolling Stones to the Guggenheim Museum. He is the recipient of two Grammies and numerous international design awards; his work is on display at MOMA, and his Happy Show – a global museum-carnival exhibition tour– is the most visited graphic design exhibit in history.
The Happy Film, which debuted at the Tribeca film festival last year, was just released in January, and screenings in New York and Los Angeles scheduled for May have already sold out.
The film event starts with a reception at 5 p.m. in the Callippe Theater foyer at Cavallo Point, followed by the film (6 p.m.) and a discussion with the co-director and producer. Tickets are $25 and include the reception with beer, wine and appetizers.
