The Marin County Fair is Over the Moon July 3–7

Marin Magazine Marin County Ferris Wheel

Held July 3-7, the 2019 Marin County Fair, Over the Moon! will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing as well as some of the things we value most in our community: family, art, agriculture, and the environment.

Rock out to free concerts by Dwight Yoakam, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, ABBA The Concert, and Steel Pulse on the Island Stage and celebrate in spectacular style as the skies are filled with fireworks every night over the lagoon, all beautifully reflected in the water below. Bring the entire family and enjoy this amazing show every night of the Fair!

Join us on Wednesday, July 3rd for Kids Day – all kids 12 and under get free admission. Practice your breakdancing skills and participate in the world’s largest Moonwalk at 2pm and be a part of record-making history!

Check out the spectacular view of the fairgrounds from atop the 10-story high Giant Ferris Wheel and don’t miss the solar-powered carousel—the first of its kind at a county fair! Butler Amusements will once again offer carnival experiences suitable for all ages, from heart pounding thrill-rides to gentle, kid-friendly rides.

Don’t miss the Fair’s Fine Art show in the Redwood Foyer Gallery, it’s the best in California. Enjoy creative entries in the Exbibit Hall by fellow Marinites of all ages including decorated paper moons, moonscape photography, baked goods, lively culinary contests, and tastings on the Blue Ribbon Stage, and much more.

Experience the Fair in an otherworldly way and step into the virtual time machine in the Exhibit Hall to join the Apollo 11 journey through the eyes of those who lived through it. Explore the Virtual Reality Barnyard and help a cow, rooster, and chick blast off to the moon. Help these virtual farm animals find a robot to make an epic moon landing and answer questions like… Is the moon really made of cheese? What is on the dark side of the moon? Do aliens really live in the craters?

New to the Fair this year, witness the magic, wonder, and artistic splendor of Italian street painting with Italian Street Painting Marin veteran artists in the Professional Garden Tent and a special exhibit from the Novato Space Station Museum in the Exhibit Hall.

“We developed the theme as an opportunity to honor the 50th anniversary of the landing on the moon, but also to showcase the feeling the Fair evokes from our entire community,” says Director of Cultural Services Gabriella C. Calicchio. “Celebrating art, agriculture, and community are values we hold near and dear and we are literally ‘over the moon’ with excitement for the Fair this summer!”
