The 6th Annual Sausalito Film Festival (which is now a series!) kicked off last Saturday night at Cavallo Point. A special screening of the new documentary Slingshot –– a snapshot of the brilliant innovator Dean Kamen (a modern-day Thomas Edison) and his remarkable effort to solve the world clean water crisis – played to an enthusiastic and sold-out crowd of over 150, (for more on the film see my previous blog on the film).
The film premiere followed a festive reception at Cavallo where film buffs and local community leaders mixed and mingled over martinis and savory bites from the Cavallo kitchen (including bags of truffle popcorn that were way above the usual movie grade!) After the film there was a provocative discussion with the film’s producer, Barry Opper, and local innovators and visionaries John Wick (Marin Carbon Project), Linda Sheehan (Earth Law) and Graham Ray (DeepRoot), moderated by former newscaster Dana King. Post after-the-after-film panel, there was more chatter in Farley’s Bar, where I sat with producer Barry Opper who opined that this was the “best audience” the film had experienced to date. He was happy; the Sausalito Film Series Collaborative was happy; it all boded well for the “festival’s” new format.
The series will continue this fall and winter at Cavallo Point in partnership with the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce and Marin Magazine.
