Winterfest Ready to Rock the Waterfront in Sausalito

With the holiday season comes Winterfest, packed with events this December 9–11 in Sausalito.

Always a highlight of the holiday season in the Bay Area, Winterfest will once again take the waterfront by storm in Sausalito — December 9-11.  Offering a full weekend of festivity, this popular local event includes the notorious Naughty and Nice Ball and the legendary Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade and fireworks on the San Francisco Bay.

Staged under the “Big Tent” along the scenic waterfront in the downtown Sausalito Yacht Harbor Marina, Winterfest Weekend kicks off Friday night, December 9, with the annual Naughty or Nice Ball. This year's theme is “Ho Ho Hollywood”, celebrating the golden age of Hollywood with “Foreverland” — the well-known, super-charged Michael Jackson tribute band. This sparkling, glam event always brings out the best little black dresses and swanky attire, with 15 favorite local restaurants catering the evening's dining, hosted bars, music, dancing and live entertainment. The evening has become one of the most celebrated Christmas parties in Marin County each year with proceeds going to The Sausalito On the Waterfront educational programs for children.

Saturday, December 10, is Marin Kids Making Merry — family and children's day under the Big Tent (11 AM- 2 PM); a public event for children of all ages. Cookie decorating, holiday arts & crafts including ornament making, storytelling, live music, entertainment, and Jolly Ole St. Nick — all for free. The kids drink cocoa; the parents drink hot mulled wine, and when it’s all over that afternoon, the best plan is to do the famed Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour through town, holiday shopping at local boutiques along the way.

That evening is the 29th Annual Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade & Fireworks. Dozens of brightly lit and beautifully decorated boats will parade along the scenic shoreline, in front of the Sausalito Yacht Club and the Winterfest tent in the center of town. The Winterfest arena is open to the public and offers a sheltered, warm, festive and hospitable site for viewing the parade — with food, drink, live music and dancing. The popular local band Mustache Harbor will be providing entertainment for the evening and VIP viewing areas for private parties and groups will fill up fast.

The weekend wraps up with a breathtaking (in more ways than one!) 5K walk/run along the Sausalito waterfront (Sunday, December 11) and a brunch in the Winterfest tent. Both are a benefit for local educational programs for kids: the Dipsea Kidz at-risk-youth program and the Waterfront Foundation Youth Education Fund which teaches kids from all walks of life about sailing, nautical skills, the marine ecosystems of the bay, environmental sustainability and stewardship.

Mark your calendar and make plans now because all of these events fill-up fast. For tickets, more information on Winterfest programs, race registration etc:
